INDIA's Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) processed a record-high 5.1 million TEU in 2019, up from a total of 5.05 million TEU the previous year.
APM Terminals Mumbai,
the top terminal at JNPT that operates as Gateway Terminals India,
handled two million TEU during the year, followed by DP World's NSIGT
facility which recorded a throughput of 990,000 TEU, reported The
The port's newest container facility, PSA's BMCT, recorded 820,000 TEU
in 2019, the port authority owned JNPCT 770,000 TEU and the smaller DP
World NSICT facility 520,000 TEU.
Highlights of the past year for JNPT included the inking of the new
Inter-Terminal Rail Handling Operation (ITRHO) agreement with all the
terminal operators at JN port, which came into effect in August 2019 in
an effort to improve operational efficiency, reduce container dwell
times and expand its share of containerised rail freight.
