THE 13,892-TEU APL Esplanade has called at Puerto Aguadulce, making it the nation's biggest box ship to call in Colombia to date, before she sails on to other ports in South America.
The ship, with a length of 369 metres, equivalent to four football fields and a width of 51 metres, called at the port, which is owned by International Container Terminal Services, Inc (ICTSI) of the Philippines and PSA of Singapore.
The port serves Bogota, Medellin and Cali. "For Puerto Aguadulce, receiving this type of vessel is an honour and a great responsibility," said ICTSI in a statement.
"At the end of last year, we received what is now, after APL Esplanade, the second largest capacity container vessel that has docked in the country. These calls confirm that Puerto Aguadulce is a terminal with global service standards, technology, infrastructure and security," said Miguel Abisambra, Puerto Aguadulce general manager.
APL Esplanade sails on the CMA CGM group's Asia Central South America (ACSA1) service that connects East Asia to Central and South America.
