CARGO throughout on China's Pearl river hit a record high in 2019, exceeding 1 billion tonnes for the first time.
Last year, the inland waterway transportation volume of Pearl river continued increasing and achieved 1 billion tonnes mark, an increase of 5.5 per cent year on year. Container throughput reached 14 million TEU, an increase of 13.4 per cent compared to 2018.
Currently, Pearl river region has 32 inland river ports, running around 1700 productive berths, with an annual handling capacity of 600 million tonnes.
According to Zhujiang (Pearl river) Aviation Management Bureau, the authority will further promote waterway transport facility construction in west China this year and strengthen the connection between inland region and coastal area, reports Seatrade Maritime News, Colchester, UK.
