CMA CGM named most accomplished Asia Pacific shipowner
Date:2018-11-30 Readers:

FRENCH shipping giant CMA CGM has been awarded the Most Accomplished Asia Pacific Ship Owner Award 2018 at the Maritime2020 Summit in Singapore on this week.

CMA CGM was judged to have made the greatest effort to have its fleet become the most sustainable, efficient and environmentally friendly.

CMA CGM vice president Mathieu Girardin, responsible for the group's Asian operations, received the award at a Singapore gala.

"We are proud to be the first shipping line in the world to equip its giant containerships with LNG powered engines, as it reinforces CMA CGM’s continuous commitment to the protection of the environment through its boldness and pioneer spirit," said Mr Girardin.

CMA CGM said it is committed to the reduction of its carbon footprint, having already reduced its CO2 emissions per container by 50 per cent between 2005 and 2015, and has further committed itself too a another 30 per cent reduction by 2025.

The Marseilles-based company has pioneered breakthrough innovations, such as the the 2005 introduction of bamboo-floor containers and ongoing investments to be compliant by January 1, 2020 with the UN's International Maritime Organisation’s (IMO) new Low Sulphur Regulation.
