Speaking at a parliamentary reception at the country’s House of Lords during Maritime UK Week, UK Secretary of State for International Trade Liam Fox said that the UK Department for International Trade’s Ports for International Trade Campaign will promote ports crucial role in British trade abroad as the nation’s gateways, facilitating and promoting its vibrant export industries.
According to Mr Fox, the campaign “will make the case for the huge opportunities that are out there — not just to port towns and cities, but to all regions of the UK, to grow high-quality jobs and improve living standards”.
“This is a very important mission,” he continued. “We think it is essential to work with industry to make this case clearly to the public.”
Mr Fox added that the UK Government cannot do this alone, with the port industry’s efforts crucial to success. The official launch of the initiative will take place in October.
Members of the initiative include the British Ports Association.
